Acttivity 1-13-11

1. What is the chemicals and their structures that make up cardboard?

Chemcials that make up cardboard are the same chemicals in paper. So this chemical is cellulose which iscarbon, hydrogen and oxygen.

This picture is a picture of the structure of cardboard.

2. What is the chemicals and their structures that make up styrofoam?

The chemcials that make up stryofoam are expaned polystyrene which is hyrogen and carbon.

This structure is the styrofoam structure I found.

3. What is the chemicals and their structures that make up wax?

The chemicals that make up Waz are oils and fats. The fatty acid chain joins with the alcohol chain.

This picture is a picture of the structure of wax.

4. Explain why water is attracted to cardboard and not styrofoam.
the elecrtonegativity of the atoms. (+ + - - of those things sticking together)

The electronegativity that is attracting to one another in the cardboard and water are greater then the attraction between styrofoam and water.
